Dhalai Café Inaugurated at Ambassa Under Rural Livelihood Mission

Dhalai Café, a community-led food enterprise run by women self-help group (SHG) members, was inaugurated at Ambassa on Monday under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), aiming to serve hygienic and affordable food while creating livelihood opportunities for rural women.
The café is owned and managed by the Swapner Siri Cluster Level Federation (CLF) of Ambassa, and has been established as part of TRLM's efforts to promote community-led entrepreneurship. It draws inspiration from the successful Sanjog Canteen model.
Dhalai Café is intended to serve government employees, visitors and the general public with quality food, officials said. Its scope extends beyond food service, functioning as a platform for women-led entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods in the district.
Approximately 10 staff members will be engaged at the outset, with preference given to trained and interested women SHG members. The initiative is designed to provide these women with valuable hands-on experience in managing a professional food-service enterprise.
The CLF will lead the café as a dedicated business unit, overseeing procurement, quality control, marketing and financial management. Officials said the vision behind the enterprise is to build sustainable income while creating regular employment opportunities for rural women in Dhalai district.
The inauguration marks a new chapter for women-led enterprise in the district, officials said, adding to the range of community-based ventures being developed under TRLM across rural Tripura.
By placing trained SHG members at the centre of its operations, Dhalai Café is expected to serve as a working example of how cluster-level federations can translate community training into functioning, professionally managed businesses.
The enterprise is now operational at Ambassa, with the CLF responsible for its day-to-day running and long-term sustainability as a business unit under the mission.
