Nine-year-old Ayushi Das of Masterpara in Shantirbazar, South Tripura, is battling a tumour-related illness, while her daily-wage worker parents struggle to meet the rising cost of her treatment and have appealed to the public for financial assistance.
Ayushi lives with her parents, Biswajit Das and Priyanka Das, in a rented house in the Masterpara area. She is the elder of their two daughters and studies in Class III at Shantirbazar Class XII School (Vidyajyoti).
According to the family, a tumour was detected in Ayushi’s leg around four years ago. Her condition later required major medical intervention. In July last year, she underwent surgery on her leg, for which the family spent around Rs 3.5 lakh.
Her father works as a mason, while her mother works as a domestic help. The family reportedly borrowed money to meet the expenses of the surgery.
However, the treatment did not end with the operation. According to the family, doctors have advised that the plate inserted in Ayushi’s leg needs to be removed at the earliest. Doctors have also reportedly informed the family that another 15 to 20 small tumours are present in her leg.
The family fears that any delay in further treatment could make her condition more complicated.
At present, arranging the cost of the required surgery has become extremely difficult for Ayushi’s parents. With their limited income and existing financial burden, they have appealed to compassionate individuals, social organisations and financially capable members of the public for assistance.
The family hopes that financial support will allow Ayushi to continue her treatment and return to a healthy life.
