NITI Aayog Member Discusses Education, Tourism and Startup Priorities with Tripura CM

Education, tourism, sports and startups took centre stage as NITI Aayog Member Dr. Joram Aniya held talks with Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha during her visit to the state, with senior NITI Aayog officials in attendance, to chart out development priorities for the northeastern state, NITI Aayog said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the discussions identified school education, tourism, sports, and innovation and entrepreneurship as key priority areas for Tripura's development. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the education ecosystem, with plans to expand Vidya Jyoti, Ashram and Eklavya Model Residential Schools, along with Smart Class initiatives. The meeting also focused on targeted interventions aimed at reducing school dropout rates in the state.
Beyond education, the two sides discussed strategies to unlock the potential of Tripura's bamboo, horticulture and fishery sectors. It is learned that strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship through collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission was also part of the agenda, along with connectivity and infrastructure priorities, including railway connectivity and the development of Kailashahar and Kamalpur airports.
On tourism, the discussions centred on developing the Buddhist Circuit, promoting homestays, and leveraging the state's cultural, spiritual and natural heritage. The conservation and sustainable development of Unakoti also featured in the talks, NITI Aayog said.
Meanwhile, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to Centre-State collaboration, knowledge sharing and outcome-oriented interventions to accelerate Tripura's development. Officials said the discussions were aimed at contributing to the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.
The visit saw senior NITI Aayog officials joining Dr. Aniya in engaging with the state government on a wide range of development priorities, underlining the think tank's continued engagement with Tripura's growth agenda.
