Rajiv Gandhi's 82nd birth anniversary observed in Tripura

Marking the 82nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Congress leaders including Asish Kumar Saha and Sudip Roy Barman today offered floral tributes at Gandhi Ghat after a flag hoisting ceremony at Congress Bhavan.
The day began with Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, along with other party leaders, hoisting the flag in front of Congress Bhavan and paying floral tributes at the statue of Rajiv Gandhi. The Congress leadership later moved to Gandhi Ghat, where they offered floral tributes at the martyrs' pedestal.
Alongside the birth anniversary observance, the Tripura Pradesh Congress also marked the day as Satya Bhavna Diwas. The programme was attended by Pradesh Congress president Asish Kumar Saha, MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Gopal Chandra Roy, and other leaders of the party.
Speaking on the occasion, Asish Kumar Saha said the Pradesh Congress had organised various programmes in every district, block, and at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan to mark the birth anniversary. He said the day would be observed as a symbol of national integration.
According to Saha, Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister the country has had, and the introduction of technology and science in India came through his initiative. He added that Rajiv Gandhi had strengthened the rural economy by introducing the Panchayati Raj system, setting the country on a path he described as incomparable.
However, Saha alleged that while the country had been moving towards development, the BJP government at present was pushing democracy towards destruction.
He further said that tributes were being paid to Rajiv Gandhi's ideals, principles and values of service to the nation, along with a pledge to follow the path he had shown. The programme concluded with homage paid to his memory, keeping in view his ideals of development, peace, unity and harmony for the country.
