Mizoram’s star hockey player and Olympian Lalremsiami Hmar has been selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award 2025 in recognition of her outstanding achievements in hockey, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced on Tuesday.
Hailing from Kolasib district in Mizoram, Lalremsiami will become the first sportsperson from the state to receive the Arjuna Award, one of India’s highest honours for sporting excellence.
Lalremsiami has represented India at the international level and has been an important member of the national women’s hockey team. Her performances on the international stage have earned her widespread recognition and made her one of the prominent hockey players from the Northeast.
The Arjuna Award honours sportspersons who have demonstrated consistent outstanding performance and contributed significantly to their respective disciplines.
Her selection for the award is being hailed as a proud moment for Mizoram and a major milestone in the state’s sporting history.
