Preserving Cultural Values Essential for a Stronger Society: CM

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has stressed the need to preserve India’s age-old traditions and values and ensure that the wisdom and experience of senior citizens are passed on to future generations.

Addressing a programme organised at Aurobindo Club in Kasharipatty, Agartala, to felicitate senior citizens, Dr. Saha said elderly people are the living repositories of experience, tradition and social values. Their contribution, he said, should be recognised and respected rather than allowing them to feel neglected or treated as a burden.

The programme was organised as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations and to mark the foundation day of Aurobindo Club. The Chief Minister appreciated the club’s various social initiatives, including blood and clothing donation drives, and said such efforts could inspire other organisations across the state.

Dr. Saha called for greater care and respect for senior citizens at the family and community levels. Referring to initiatives for the welfare of people above 70 years of age, he highlighted the benefits available under the Ayushman Bharat scheme and said the state government has also introduced the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana.

The Chief Minister further underlined the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage and maintaining social harmony. He said the country has retained its civilisational identity despite historical challenges and stressed that traditional values should continue to guide future generations.

Dr. Saha also said that the state government was pursuing development initiatives with an emphasis on transparency and public welfare. He referred to ongoing efforts to improve drainage and waterlogging management in Agartala, including plans to expedite the pumping of rainwater into nearby rivers.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, Central Zone Chairman Ratna Dutta, social worker Shyamal Kumar Deb, representatives of Aurobindo Club and other dignitaries attended the programme.
