ED Raids Businessman Shahjahan Mia's Home and Shop in Agartala

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday raided the home and shop of Agartala businessman Shahjahan Mia, triggering a stir in the city's Akhaura Road and Battala Bazar areas over alleged suspicious financial transactions.
ED officials reached Shahjahan Mia's residence in the Western Club area early Wednesday morning and began questioning him. At the same time, another team searched his shop at Battala Fitting Market. The operation was carried out with the assistance of central security force personnel.
According to sources, the search was based on allegations of suspicious financial transactions and possible foreign fund transfers. Investigators are also examining whether Shahjahan Mia has links to certain alleged activities in border areas. His movements had reportedly been under surveillance for several days before the raid.
The operation reportedly caught even Tripura Police by surprise. The ED is said to have conducted the search independently, without coordinating with local police. Shahjahan Mia was questioned through the day at both his home and shop.
Asked about the reason for the raid, Shahjahan Mia said he did not know specifically why the search was being conducted at his premises.
As of Wednesday afternoon, no major recovery had been reported from either location. However, sources said ED officials collected some documents during the search.
The ED has not officially released detailed information on the case. The nature of the allegations and the specific focus of the investigation remain unconfirmed. Sources said the collected documents are being examined to determine possible links to suspicious transactions or a cross-border network.
