Assam Releases Rs 15,000 Aid to Nearly 1 Lakh Flood-Hit Families

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday released interim financial assistance of Rs 15,000 each to nearly one lakh families affected by floods in the state’s worst-hit districts of Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat and Charaideo.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Sarma said floodwaters had receded in the four districts and that relief and rehabilitation operations had been intensified.
He said a rapid assessment survey was underway to determine the extent of damage caused by the floods. So far, around 36,000 families have been assessed, with their direct losses estimated at nearly Rs 450 crore.
According to the Chief Minister, the assessment has covered about 30 per cent of the affected population so far. The survey will continue until August 31, with the overall flood-related losses expected to cross Rs 1,000 crore.
Sarma assured that all necessary assistance would be provided to affected families and appealed to residents in flood-hit areas to cooperate with the assessment teams. He said participation in the survey would help ensure that families receive adequate compensation and support for rehabilitation.
