Tripura emerges as Northeast’s second largest economy: CM Dr Manik Saha

Tripura has emerged as the second-ranked state in the Northeast in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and per capita income, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said on Saturday while outlining the state’s development achievements during the 80th Independence Day celebrations.
Addressing the gathering at the Assam Rifles Ground in Agartala after hoisting the national flag, Saha said Tripura’s economy has witnessed significant growth alongside the broader expansion of the Indian economy over the past several years.
The Chief Minister said the state now occupies the second position among the Northeastern states in GDP and also holds the second-best position in terms of per capita income. He further noted that NITI Aayog has recognised Tripura as a “front-runner” state in its development assessment.
Highlighting improvements in governance and public safety, Saha also claimed that Tripura has one of the better law-and-order records in the country, ranking second from the lowest in terms of crime and law-and-order indicators, according to his assessment.
The Chief Minister also spoke about the significance of Independence Day celebrations in fostering patriotism among the younger generation. He praised the nationwide enthusiasm generated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day initiatives, including the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign launched in recent years.
Saha said such programmes help acquaint the younger generation with the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and strengthen their sense of patriotism and national responsibility.
The Chief Minister’s remarks came as Tripura marked the 80th Independence Day with celebrations across the state, with development, economic progress and national pride forming key themes of the day’s programmes.
