CM Dr Manik Saha lays foundation stone for state-of-the-art Eye Hospital in Agartala

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday laid the foundation stone for a new Agartala Government Eye Hospital at the Capital Complex area, marking a significant step towards strengthening specialised eye-care services in the state.
The proposed hospital will come up as a modern G+4 facility and is scheduled to be completed within two years. Equipped with advanced infrastructure and modern medical facilities, the institution is expected to provide comprehensive and tertiary-level ophthalmic care to patients.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, Chief Minister Saha described the project as an important milestone in the state's healthcare sector. He expressed confidence that the new facility would develop into one of the leading eye-care institutions in the Northeast and eventually emerge as a Centre of Excellence in ophthalmology.
The hospital is proposed to function under the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and is expected to significantly expand access to specialised eye treatment for people in Tripura. The project is also aimed at reducing the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced ophthalmic treatment.
The Chief Minister said the state government has been taking several measures to modernise the public healthcare system, with greater emphasis on technology and digital health services. He also highlighted the progress made in the generation of ABHA health cards, stating that around 80 per cent of Tripura's population has already been covered.
The foundation-stone ceremony was attended by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, senior government officials and representatives of the Health and Family Welfare Department.
The upcoming eye hospital is expected to add a major specialised healthcare facility to Agartala's medical infrastructure and further strengthen Tripura's capacity to provide advanced treatment within the state.
