5 Tripura Police Personnel Awarded Medal for Meritorious Service on Independence Day 2026

Five personnel of the Tripura Police have been awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) as part of the Independence Day 2026 honours list. The recipients range in rank from Superintendent of Police to Constable, according to the official list of awardees released for the occasion.
The awardees are Superintendent of Police Amitabha Pal, Havildar Sishu Ranjan Chowdhury, Subedar Sanjib Patra, Naik Md Maharam Ali and Constable Mrinal Debbarma.
The Medal for Meritorious Service is one of three honours conferred under the Independence Day list, alongside the Medal for Gallantry and the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. However, Tripura did not feature among the recipients of either the Gallantry Medal or the President's Medal for Distinguished Service in the police category this year.
It is learned that the Police Service category recorded 272 Gallantry Medal awardees, 83 recipients of the President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 606 recipients of the Medal for Meritorious Service nationally this year. Tripura's five awardees form part of that 606-strong MSM list.
Moreover, the Independence Day 2026 medals list covers police, fire, home guard and civil defence, and correctional services personnel across states, union territories and central forces. Tripura's presence in this year's list is confined to the Police Service category.
