Traffic Restrictions Announced in Agartala for Independence Day Celebrations

Tripura Police has announced restrictions on vehicle movement across several parts of Agartala on August 15, 2026, in view of Independence Day celebrations. The curbs will remain in force from 8.30 am to 12 noon, covering key stretches such as Buddha Mandir, Malancha Niwas and Gurkha Basti.
Movement of all types of private and commercial vehicles, two wheelers, e-rickshaws, rickshaws and hand carts will remain restricted at 3 locations during this period, except vehicles carrying school children. These are Gurkha Basti towards the South direction, Buddha Mandir towards the North direction, and Malancha Niwas towards Circuit House, according to the police advisory.
Vehicles carrying patients will be allowed to proceed towards G.B. Hospital during the restriction period, using the route via Abhoynagar Bazar and Kumari Tilla. Passengers travelling by flight, meanwhile, have been advised to use the road from Durga Chowmuhani to Barjala, via Panchabati Kali Mandir.
Police have also declared 3 stretches as no parking zones for the day. These include the road from old Lok Bhawan Main Gate to Buddha Mandir on both sides, the stretch from Buddha Mandir to old MLA Hostel No. 1 on Cantonment Road on both sides, and the road from Buddha Mandir to Abhoynagar Post Office.
Commuters have been requested to plan their journey through alternative routes to avoid congestion and ensure smooth traffic management on the day. Police have also appealed to the public to follow traffic rules, including wearing seat belts, avoiding mobile phone use while driving, wearing helmets, not overspeeding and refraining from drinking and driving.
