State Takes Strict Action Against Black Marketing, Assures Stable Ration Supply

Amid ongoing opposition demonstrations over inflation and examination irregularities, Tripura Cabinet Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reaffirmed the state's crackdown on market hoarding and defended the Modi government's legislative actions against paper leaks during a media interaction in Agartala.
Speaking to journalists at the state party office, Chowdhury addressed recent protests organized by the CPI(M) regarding the price rise of essential items and petroleum products. He stated that price fluctuations are largely influenced by global market conditions and international conflicts.
However, he assured the public that the state administration is taking active measures to prevent illegal market practices within Tripura.
"If artificial crises are created or black marketing takes place, our enforcement teams immediately step in and take strict action," Chowdhury asserted.
Clarifying complaints regarding public distribution supplies, the Minister explained that recent reports of damaged lentils at a ration outlet were due to localized rainwater leakage during storage. He confirmed that affected stock was immediately replaced and noted that official rice prices under the Food Corporation of India remain stable.
Addressing municipal issues, Chowdhury responded to media queries regarding severe traffic congestion near GB Hospital in Agartala. He attributed the bottleneck to a sharp rise in overall vehicle registrations, which grew from 4.5 lakh five years ago to nearly 9 lakh today, along with an influx of unregulated electric rickshaws.
"I will speak with the auto syndicates and department officials so that this issue can be resolved as quickly as possible," Chowdhury said.
On the international front, Chowdhury voiced optimism regarding bilateral relations with neighbouring Bangladesh, emphasizing that restoring border trade through points like Akhaura and Sabroom would prove mutually beneficial.
"We want bilateral relations to be cordial and sweet. Restoring trade and connectivity as quickly as possible will bring immense benefits to Tripura as well as Bangladesh," he noted.
