Centre Gives Tripura Rs 80 Lakh For Tourism Festivals in 2025-26: LS Report

The Centre has extended financial support of Rs 80 lakh to Tripura for tourism fairs and festivals in 2025-26, Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat told the Lok Sabha on Monday, citing rising tourist interest in the state.

Of the total amount, Rs 30 lakh has been allocated for the Neermahal Festival, Rs 30 lakh for the Diwali Festival, and Rs 20 lakh for the Chabimura and Tirthamukh Festival.

The support comes as Tripura recorded a total of 3,93,877 tourist arrivals between January and June 2026, including 3,84,453 domestic and 9,424 foreign tourists, according to data presented in Parliament.

The Centre said interest among domestic and international tourists in Tripura is steadily increasing, with Agartala functioning as a key gateway to destinations such as Udaipur, Neermahal, Sepahijala, Unakoti and Chabimura.

Various initiatives are being taken to promote Northeast tourism destinations and local products, including exhibitions, fairs, festivals, digital platforms and social media campaigns. Since 2013, the Ministry of Tourism has organised the International Tourism Mart annually to showcase the region's tourism potential, with the most recent edition held in Gangtok, Sikkim, from November 13 to 16, 2025.

The Incredible India digital platform, revamped in September 2024, is also being used to promote Northeast tourism destinations with content in multiple languages.

Support for tourism infrastructure continues through schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0, PRASHAD, SASCI and Challenge Based Destination Development. Regional air connectivity has also been strengthened under the RCS UDAN scheme, including Agartala-Aizawl flights, aimed at improving connectivity within the Northeast and reinforcing Agartala's role as the state's principal tourism and transport hub.
