RGV to Direct Harshvardhan Rane in ‘Police Company’

Ram Gopal Varma is set to return to the gritty world of Mumbai’s crime underworld with Police Company, a crime thriller starring Sanam Teri Kasam actor Harshvardhan Rane. Backed by T-Series, the film is reportedly based on the life of former Mumbai encounter specialist Daya Nayak.
The film will chronicle Nayak’s extraordinary journey from a small village in Mangaluru to becoming one of Mumbai Police’s most recognised encounter specialists. It is expected to explore his eventful career and the high-profile operations he carried out during his three-decade-long association with the police force.
Police Company is said to be a long-cherished project for Varma, who has been trying to develop a film based on Nayak’s life for several years. The project has recently gained momentum, with Harshvardhan Rane on board to play the lead and pre-production reportedly already underway.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in the third week of August.
The film is also being positioned as a revival of Varma’s Company franchise, which began with the critically acclaimed Company (2002) and was followed by D Company (2021). However, Police Company will reportedly be a standalone story with no direct narrative connection to the earlier films.
According to sources, Varma moved ahead with Police Company after his other crime thriller, Syndicate, could not materialise due to budget constraints.
The project is expected to mark Varma’s return to the hard-hitting crime genre that has been a defining part of his filmmaking career.
