TET Qualified Candidates Stopped by Police While Marching to CM's Residence

Nearly two years after clearing the Teacher Eligibility Test, candidates still awaiting appointment marched toward Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha's residence on Monday, only to be stopped by police outside Agartala Mahila College.
The 2024 TET qualified job seekers have been demanding recruitment to teaching posts for nearly two years, submitting repeated deputations and staging agitations before the Tripura Teachers' Recruitment Board, the Education Department and the Directorate of School Education (Primary), but no satisfactory action has been taken on their demand.
The protesters said schools across the state face a shortage of teachers, with numerous posts vacant, and questioned the long delay in recruitment despite this.
"There are vacant teaching posts in the state, schools are facing a shortage of teachers. Then why, even after two years have passed, are we still not being appointed?" one protester said.
According to the protesters, nearly 50,000 candidates had appeared in the latest TET examination, and after verification, 1,856 candidates remain in contention. Many now fear crossing the maximum age limit for government job applications because of the delay. They allege around 20 to 25 candidates have already crossed 40 years of age, while several others have barely a month left before reaching the limit.
The candidates said they are not seeking any relaxation in standards, only swift appointment of those who cleared the TET and verification process.
They said the wait has affected their livelihoods, as many survive on private tuition that has now become hard to find. The protesters expressed anger at being stopped before reaching the Chief Minister, and demanded immediate completion of the recruitment process alongside regular recruitment to address the shortage and unemployment in the state.
