Tripura Police Seize Over 150 kg Ganja, Cough Syrup in Two Operations

Police in Tripura recovered large quantities of cannabis and banned cough syrup in two separate operations over the weekend, one in South Tripura's Manaipathar area and the other along the Sonamura border, with two people arrested and further investigation underway.
Acting on secret information, a team led by Sub Inspector Ratan Robi Das, P.R. Bari police station Officer in Charge P.R. Bari, Sub Inspector Niron Debbarma, Sub Inspector Bikash Debnath and DCM Belonia, along with the Udaipur district mobile forensic team, raided the Manaipathar home of Dulal Majumder in South Tripura.
During the search, investigators dug up the floor of a room and found four plastic drums buried underground, containing 122.100 kilograms of dried cannabis, police said. After completing the legal procedures for search and seizure, the cannabis and a vehicle bearing registration number TR-08-E-0656 were confiscated, and Dulal Majumder and his son Sagar Majumder were arrested from the spot.
Police have registered a case at P.R. Bari station under NDPS Act sections 20(b)(ii)(c), 25 and 29, numbered 30/2026, and are investigating the cannabis's source, possible other traffickers, and how the vehicle was used.
Meanwhile, a joint operation by Sonamura Police Station officials and the 81st Battalion BSF near the UNC Nagar border recovered 25 bottles of Escoff syrup after a bike fleeing the force's vehicles was abandoned along with a bag containing the bottles. In a separate operation the same night on the Batadola-Bolerdhepa border road, 34 kilograms of cannabis hidden in nearby forest was seized. Police and the BSF are investigating both cases to identify and arrest those involved.
