Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha Reviews Electricity Tariff Concerns, Promises Decision Soon

Agartala, Aug 9: A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday evening reviewed concerns over electricity tariffs and billing, with the Chief Minister announcing on Sunday that a final decision would be taken shortly.The Saturday meeting was attended by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha, Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, and senior officials from various state government departments, along with senior officials of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.
Responding to questions on electricity bills on Sunday, Dr. Saha said certain problems can arise from time to time during developmental and administrative work. He said the government's aim is to resolve such problems while maintaining public trust, and that detailed discussions had already been held on electricity related issues. He expressed hope that the problems would be resolved. According to the Chief Minister, some issues can be addressed immediately, while others depend on various external factors. He said the government would take its decisions giving the highest priority to public interest. Dr. Saha said his government came to power through the people's votes, and that there was no question of the government taking any decision that ignores public interest.
The Chief Minister welcomed constructive suggestions from the opposition on the electricity issue. However, he alleged that attempts were being made in certain cases to politicize the matter, and criticized efforts to use the situation to agitate or provoke the general public. Dr. Saha said the government is currently examining all aspects related to electricity bills and tariffs. Further discussions would be held on the matter, he said, and a final decision would be announced very soon. The government's decision would be communicated in due course, he added.
