Mayor calls for permanent solution to waterlogging in Agartala

Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Friday stressed the need for a permanent solution to the recurring problem of waterlogging in the city, directing officials to take immediate and long-term measures to improve the drainage system before the monsoon intensifies.
The Mayor conducted an extensive inspection of several waterlogging-prone areas, including RMS Chowmuhani and Joynagar, accompanied by AMC engineers and senior civic officials. During the visit, he assessed the condition of drainage channels and identified locations where obstructions were preventing the smooth flow of rainwater.
Speaking during the inspection, Majumder said the civic body is committed to resolving the city's drainage issues through sustainable infrastructure improvements rather than temporary measures. He instructed the engineering team to remove bottlenecks in the drainage network and implement permanent solutions to ensure the quick discharge of rainwater during heavy showers.
The Mayor also reviewed the progress of the under-construction coffee house at the Agartala Children's Park premises. After inspecting the site, he directed the concerned officials to expedite the construction work and complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.
Corporator Ratna Dutta, AMC East Zone Chairman Sukhmay Saha, AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid A, along with engineers and other municipal officials, accompanied the Mayor during the field inspection.
