Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Marks Historic First Chakma Language Day in Tripura

Tripura on Friday witnessed a historic cultural milestone with the state observing its first-ever Chakma Language and Script Day, celebrating the rich linguistic heritage and cultural identity of the Chakma community.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism Sushanta Chowdhury inaugurated the landmark event at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
Describing the occasion as a “proud and memorable chapter” in Tripura’s history, Chowdhury said the initiative reflects the state government’s commitment to preserving linguistic diversity, safeguarding cultural traditions and promoting mother tongues.
He said the Chakma language and script are not only integral to the identity of the Chakma community but also form an invaluable part of Tripura’s rich cultural heritage. He stressed the importance of promoting the language through literature, education and research so that its legacy can be strengthened and carried forward to future generations.
Chowdhury also extended his greetings and congratulations to language activists, teachers, researchers, writers, artists, social leaders and others dedicated to preserving the Chakma language and script.
Industry and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma and several other dignitaries were also present at the inaugural programme.
