Meghalaya Probes Cause of Recurring Jorabat Floods
Aug 06, 2026
The Meghalaya government has launched an assessment to determine the causes of recurring flooding in Jorabat, with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stating that ongoing road construction could be one of the contributing factors.
Jorabat, a key transit point along the Meghalaya-Assam border, has repeatedly witnessed severe waterlogging during heavy rainfall, disrupting traffic and affecting daily life. The government is examining whether infrastructure works have altered natural drainage patterns, leading to the persistent flooding.
The findings of the assessment are expected to help authorities identify long-term solutions to improve drainage and mitigate flood risks in the area.
