CM Manik Saha Mourns Demise of Former Governor D.Y. Patil

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of eminent educationist, philanthropist and former Governor of Tripura and Bihar, Padma Shri Dr Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil.
In a condolence message shared on social media, Dr Saha described Dr D.Y. Patil as a “visionary institution builder, philanthropist and respected public figure” who left an enduring legacy through his contributions to education, healthcare and public service.
Dr Patil passed away on Monday at the age of 90 following age-related ailments. His death marks the end of a distinguished career spanning education, public service and politics.
Born on October 22, 1935, Dr Patil played a major role in expanding access to professional education in India. Through the D.Y. Patil Group, he established a vast network of educational institutions covering medicine, engineering, management, agriculture and allied disciplines, along with universities, international schools and multi-speciality hospitals.
Dr Patil also served as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly before being appointed Governor of Tripura, Bihar and West Bengal. He was widely recognised for his administrative leadership and public engagement.
In recognition of his contribution to education and social welfare, the Government of India conferred the Padma Shri on him in 1991.
Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Saha prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and concluded his message with “Om Shanti.”
