Proposed Health university in Tripura to begin operation soon: CM Dr Manik Saha

Tripura is set to take a major step in strengthening its healthcare education system, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announcing that the proposed University of Health and Sciences will commence operations in the near future.
The university, once functional, will act as the affiliating body for medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and allied health science institutions across the state.
The move is expected to bring all health education institutions under a unified academic framework, ensuring better coordination in teaching, examinations and research activities.
Speaking about the initiative, the Chief Minister said nearly 10 acres of land have been earmarked at Srinagar under Dukli Block for the establishment of the university's permanent campus. Until the campus is constructed, the university is likely to operate from a temporary facility, either at Agartala Government Medical College or the Health Department headquarters.
Dr. Saha said the creation of a dedicated health university would significantly improve the quality of medical education by promoting academic excellence, strengthening research and standardising examination and evaluation systems. He noted that the institution would also help produce a skilled healthcare workforce while enhancing the state's medical education infrastructure.
The university is expected to play a pivotal role in Tripura's long-term vision of becoming a centre for quality healthcare and medical education in the Northeast.
The initiative gained legislative approval earlier this year after the Tripura Legislative Assembly passed the Tripura University of Health Sciences Bill, 2026.
Once operational, the university will oversee the academic administration of the state's expanding network of health education institutions and ensure greater efficiency in governance, curriculum and examinations.
