The Manipur Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparent, efficient and accountable distribution of foodgrains across the state through the effective implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
Addressing a press conference in Imphal on Friday, the department's Director said that all 2,532 Fair Price Shops in the state have been equipped with electronic Point of Sale (ePOS) devices. The biometric authentication system enables real-time monitoring of foodgrain distribution, ensuring greater transparency and reducing the scope for irregularities.
The Director also informed that a four-metric-tonne-per-hour rice mill being established under the SASCI Project is nearing completion. The facility is expected to strengthen decentralised paddy procurement, provide better returns to local farmers and reduce the state's dependence on rice procured from outside Manipur.
Highlighting the department's consumer protection measures, the Director said the State Level Price Monitoring Committee is regularly monitoring the prices of 18 essential commodities to maintain price stability and safeguard consumer interests.
He added that the department remains committed to strengthening food security, enhancing consumer protection and delivering transparent and efficient public services through the greater use of technology.
