The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme from 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total financial outlay of ₹3.15 lakh crore over the next five years.
Briefing the media in New Delhi, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the decision reaffirms the government's commitment to ensuring farmers' prosperity through timely and transparent income support. He said the assistance under the PM-KISAN scheme is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmer families through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The Minister informed that more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers through 23 instalments so far. He added that the financial assistance has enabled farmers to make timely investments in seeds, fertilisers, irrigation, agricultural machinery and other essential farming inputs.
The Union Cabinet also approved the National Offshore Exploration Scheme – Samudra Manthan, with an outlay of ₹84,084 crore for implementation up to the financial year 2030-31. Mr Vaishnaw said the scheme includes a comprehensive set of interventions across the offshore exploration value chain to strengthen the country's offshore resource exploration efforts.
