The United States has resumed air strikes inside Iran after a brief pause, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran. The renewed strikes came after Iran launched ballistic missiles at a US military base in Jordan earlier this week.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said all the missiles were successfully intercepted, with no damage or casualties reported. The military described the attack as a surprise strike launched from Iranian territory.
The missile barrage was Iran's first direct ballistic missile attack on a US military base since Washington paused its air campaign to allow room for diplomatic efforts. US President Donald Trump warned that the United States would respond firmly to any attack on American forces.
Meanwhile, US and Saudi forces carried out joint air strikes on Iran-backed militias in Iraq. The Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) said at least 20 people were killed. CENTCOM said the strikes targeted weapons depots and logistics facilities after more than 30 drones were launched over three days at US troops and Saudi oil infrastructure.
