India’s merchandise exports recorded a 15 per cent growth during the April–July period of the current financial year, despite the ongoing Red Sea crisis and global geopolitical uncertainties, said, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.
Addressing the JRD Tata Memorial Lecture 2026, Goyal said India’s export performance remained resilient even as mounting tensions in West Asia and disruptions to key global shipping routes continued to impact international trade.
He noted that the first quarter of the current financial year has been marked by persistent global challenges, including volatility in crude oil, petrol, diesel and natural gas markets, uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, and the continuing Red Sea crisis.
Despite these headwinds, the minister said India’s merchandise exports grew by 15 per cent during the April–July period, reflecting the strength of the country’s economic fundamentals.
Highlighting the broader economic outlook, Goyal said India remained the world’s fastest-growing major economy, registering 7.7 per cent GDP growth in the previous financial year despite widespread global uncertainty.
