The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Assam over the next three to four days, prompting authorities to issue alerts and step up preparedness measures.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected from July 30 to August 1 across Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. The weather system is likely to particularly affect the Assam districts bordering the neighbouring states, including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat.
The IMD has warned that the intense rainfall may trigger waterlogging, flash floods, disruption of road traffic and localized landslides in vulnerable areas.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said district administrations and emergency response agencies have been placed on alert and are closely monitoring the situation. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and to stay updated through official weather bulletins and advisories issued by local authorities.
