Rajya Sabha takes up Public Examinations Amendment Bill 2026 for consideration and passing

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday took up the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, for consideration and passing. Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh moved the Bill after the House reassembled following the lunch break.
Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan announced that seven hours have been allotted for discussion on the proposed legislation.
The Bill seeks to strengthen measures against examination malpractices by prescribing stringent penalties, including imprisonment of up to ten years, fines of up to ₹10 crore, and the seizure of properties belonging to convicted offenders.
The proposed legislation also mandates every State Government and Union Territory Administration to establish Special Fast Track Courts to ensure the speedy disposal of cases through day-to-day trials.
To expedite the legal process, the Bill requires investigations to be completed within two months from the date an offence is registered at a police station, while trials must be concluded within three months of the filing of the chargesheet.
