Tripura startup delivers purified water to flood-hit Assam families

A Tripura University-incubated startup has supplied more than 2,000 litres of purified drinking water to nearly 30 flood-affected families in Amguri and adjoining areas of Assam, using indigenous water purification technology.
The startup, InstaWater, was founded by Harjeet Nath, an assistant professor at Tripura University. The relief operation used the company's patented mobile water purification system to convert contaminated water into safe drinking water for local residents.
Tripura University M.Tech student Ashim and InstaWater technician Santanu carried out the ground-level relief work. Using the portable technology, they purified contaminated surface water and floodwater on the spot and handed it over to affected families in the flood-hit region.
Nath said the portable system was designed for rapid deployment during floods, natural disasters and humanitarian crises, converting contaminated water into safe drinking water on the spot, particularly where regular supply has been disrupted.
"Availability of safe drinking water is one of the most urgent needs during floods. Through this indigenous technology developed in Tripura, our aim is to deliver clean water quickly to affected people and reduce the risk of waterborne diseases. We will continue to provide this kind of assistance in disaster response across different parts of the country in future," he said.
Nath said the initiative has shown that university-based research can offer effective solutions to real humanitarian crises. He added that InstaWater has, since its inception, supported flood and disaster-affected people across the country through its portable water purification technology.
