The 23rd Commonwealth Games will begin today in Glasgow, Scotland, with athletes from 74 nations set to compete in the 10-day sporting event.
India will field a 125-member contingent, including para-athletes, at the Games. Olympic medallists Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain are among the prominent Indian athletes representing the country.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will feature only 10 sports, nine fewer than the previous edition held in Birmingham in 2022. The competitions will be held across four venues located within an eight-mile corridor.
The sporting programme includes athletics, swimming, 3x3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, bowls, artistic gymnastics, netball, boxing and judo.
India had secured 61 medals at the last Commonwealth Games. However, the Glasgow edition will pose a different challenge for the Indian contingent due to the reduced number of sports and fewer medal events.
