Heavy rainfall continued to lash Assam on Wednesday, claiming 10 more lives and taking the flood-related death toll to 41. More than 6.4 lakh people have been affected across 40 revenue circles as the flood situation remains critical in several parts of the state.
Relief and rescue operations are underway in the affected districts, while several rivers continue to flow above the danger mark, increasing the risk of further flooding.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across Assam over the next three to four days. In view of the prevailing situation, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has urged residents, especially those living in low-lying and hillside areas, to remain alert and follow official weather advisories.
In Guwahati, authorities have issued traffic advisories, cautioning commuters about possible waterlogging, traffic congestion and localized disruptions due to the persistent rain.
Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota reviewed the flood situation in the worst-affected districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat on Wednesday. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted relief distribution, expedite the restoration of essential services and undertake the repair of damaged infrastructure to support affected communities.
