BJP Slams Congress Over Rahul Gandhi's Dharna, Takes Out Protest March in Agartala

Agartala, Jul 22: The state BJP took out a protest march in Agartala on Wednesday, condemning Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's dharna in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence over alleged police action on protesting students. The march, led by state BJP president Abhishek Debroy and Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, moved through various parts of the city before culminating at the Congress Bhawan near Post Office Chowmuhani.
Addressing the gathering, Debroy alleged that Congress was using the Delhi student agitation to spread hatred against the BJP, without addressing the actual issues raised by students. He claimed a conspiracy was at work and said the BJP was ready to fight it. He further said people across the country supported Modi and accused Rahul Gandhi of conspiring against the government from abroad, calling it an attempt to divide the nation. He also described Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's dharna outside the Prime Minister's residence on Tuesday as an unprecedented and dirty political move.
Meanwhile, the state Congress, Youth Congress and NSUI jointly organized a separate march in Agartala, burning an effigy of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. MLA Sudip Roy Barman, present at the protest, said students had no option but to intensify their movement to secure their rights.The students' sit-in outside the Circuit House, demanding Pradhan's resignation over alleged exam paper leaks, entered its third day on Wednesday. Protesters alleged 152 question papers had been leaked or found fraudulent and claimed 20 to 22 students had died by suicide. Tension flared briefly when a BJP bike rally passed the protest site, though police presence kept the situation under control.
In Kailasahar, the district Congress held a gherao at the police station, led by MLA Birajit Sinha and district president Badaruzzaman, protesting the detention of Rahul Gandhi and other leaders. Separately, Amra Bangali state secretary Gourango Rudrapal condemned the police lathi-charge on students at Jantar Mantar, warning of a mass agitation if the government continued ignoring students' concerns.a
