Jul 22, 2026
Banks have mobilised over 20.7 billion US dollars in foreign exchange inflows under the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) special swap scheme, which was launched on 8 June.
According to RBI data released on Tuesday, more than 17.4 billion US dollars was raised through Foreign Currency Non-Resident (Bank) [FCNR(B)] deposits. Banks also mobilised nearly 2 billion US dollars through Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCBs) and over 1.3 billion US dollars through External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs).
The RBI introduced the concessional swap facility to strengthen India’s balance of payments and encourage greater foreign capital inflows. The swap window for FCNR(B) deposits will remain open until 30 September 2026, while the facilities for OFCBs and ECBs will continue until 31 December 2026.
