Rescue & relief operations intensify across Flood-hit Assam

The flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical, with 16 districts reeling under the impact of heavy flooding. According to official reports, 21 more people have lost their lives, taking the overall death toll to 31.
The deluge has inundated 872 villages, affecting more than 5.64 lakh people across the state. Over 24,000 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged, while urban flooding has also hit Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, impacting more than 4,000 residents.
Rescue and relief operations are being carried out on a war footing. The state government has set up 71 relief camps and 202 relief distribution centres, providing shelter to over 12,000 displaced people and extending assistance to more than one lakh flood-affected residents.
Teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, along with the local administration, are continuing round-the-clock rescue, evacuation and relief operations in the affected areas.
