HS Prannoy Exits China Open


India’s HS Prannoy bowed out of the China Open badminton tournament after suffering a straight-game defeat to Malaysia’s Leong Jun Hao in the opening round of the men’s singles event in Changzhou on Tuesday. Prannoy lost 21-10, 21-14 to end his campaign.

India’s challenge in the men’s singles now rests with Lakshya Sen and Ayush Shetty. In the women’s singles, two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu will take on compatriot Unnati Hooda in a Round of 32 clash on Wednesday, while Devika Sihag will also begin her campaign.

In the men’s doubles, M.R. Arjun and Hariharan Amsakarunan are India’s lone representatives. In the mixed doubles, the pairs of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila, and Rohan Kapoor and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde will be in action. India has no entries in the women’s doubles competition.
