The flood situation in Assam has worsened, with the death toll rising to 10 as incessant rainfall and swelling rivers continue to affect large parts of the state.
According to the latest official reports, floods have impacted 16 districts, including Jorhat, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Tinsukia, and Golaghat. A total of 45 revenue circles and 794 villages remain inundated, affecting more than three lakh people. Over 19,000 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged.
Five flood-related deaths were reported on Tuesday, taking the overall death toll to 10. Two persons have also been reported missing.
Sivasagar remains the worst-affected district, with more than 1.57 lakh people impacted, followed by Charaideo with over 1.04 lakh affected and Jorhat with nearly 51,000 affected.
Relief and rescue operations are continuing across the flood-hit areas. Authorities have set up 101 relief camps and distribution centres, providing shelter to more than 9,600 displaced people. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army, and other agencies have rescued over 6,700 people so far.
Floodwaters and erosion have also caused extensive damage to roads, embankments, and other public infrastructure. Meanwhile, urban flooding has affected parts of Jorhat, Kamrup, and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, impacting nearly 7,800 people.
