Chandamita Roy Wins Best National Costume at Miss Teen Diva 2026

A costume rooted in Tripura's tribal heritage, designed by Yana Ngoba Chakpu, founder and CEO of the North East India Fashion Week The Artisans Movement, won Chandamita Roy the 'Best National Costume' award at Miss Teen Diva 2026 in Jaipur.
Chandamita Roy's win at the pageant, held in Jaipur, brought a fresh spotlight to Tripura's art, culture and heritage on the national stage. The winning costume was built around the traditional handwoven textile of Tripura's Debbarma (Tripuri) community, crafted on the loin loom, an ancient weaving technique preserved across generations. The wings of the costume were designed drawing inspiration from Nageswar, the state flower of Tripura, symbolising the beauty and resilience of nature.
The outfit also featured a blend of tradition and modernity, incorporating jewellery made from Indian coins, silver tribal ornaments and red beads. The presentation received support from the state's Tourism Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, and is being seen as a reflection of the government's commitment to promoting the state's culture and tourism at the national and international levels.
Speaking after receiving the award, Chandamita Roy said, "I am proud to have represented Tripura through this costume. This recognition is not just mine, it belongs to the artists, weavers and artisans of our state."
Designer Yana Ngoba Chakpu said, "Every thread and ornament in this creation tells the story of India's tribal culture and pays tribute to the artisans who keep our heritage alive."
The achievement is being viewed as a significant milestone in showcasing the state's cultural heritage nationally. It is also expected to open new avenues for cultural preservation, tourism promotion and highlighting the traditions of Northeast India on the global stage through fashion.
