Devotees Throng Temples on First Monday of Shravan

Devotees thronged temples across the region on Monday, the first Monday of the holy month of Shravan, offering milk and water on Lord Shiva's head to seek his blessings for family peace and happiness.
Temples witnessed an overwhelming turnout from early morning as devotees gathered to perform the ritual, considered highly significant during Shravan, which is regarded as the birth month of Lord Shiva. According to religious beliefs, worshipping Shiva during this month is extremely auspicious, and many devotees dedicate themselves to the worship of Shiva and Goddess Parvati throughout the period.
The Mondays falling within Shravan hold special religious importance. It is customary during this month to offer honey, milk, bel leaves, dhutura flowers, akand garlands and water on the Shivling. This ritual is observed every Monday to please the deity, and today, being the first Monday of Shravan, saw a large number of devotees undertaking Shiva puja to appease Mahadev.
Devotees said the offerings are made with the belief that pleasing Lord Shiva ensures the wellbeing and harmony of their families. The practice of pouring water and milk over the deity's head is seen as a gesture of devotion meant to invoke his blessings for a peaceful household.
Temple premises remained crowded through the day as worshippers queued patiently to perform the rituals. The sight of devotees carrying pots of water and milk to the temples has become a common scene on Shravan Mondays, reflecting the deep religious sentiment attached to the month.
With several more Mondays of Shravan still to come, temple authorities anticipate similar crowds in the coming weeks as devotees continue to observe the sacred rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva.
