Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for a productive Monsoon Session of Parliament, saying that just as a proactive monsoon benefits the nation, a constructive Parliament contributes to the country's progress and the welfare of its people.
Addressing the media ahead of the start of the session, the Prime Minister expressed confidence that the proceedings would reflect the spirit of national development. He said India's growing global stature and recent achievements demonstrate the boundless potential and aspirations of the country's youth.
Highlighting the country's recent milestones, Mr Modi noted that an Indian recently travelled to the International Space Station, while an Indian private space startup achieved a significant breakthrough, marking a new chapter in the nation's space journey. He said these accomplishments have enhanced India's standing on both the national and international stage.
Referring to global challenges, the Prime Minister said ongoing conflicts in West Asia had created uncertainty over the supply of petroleum products, LPG, fertilisers and chemicals. Despite these challenges, he said India recorded a 7.7 per cent growth rate, emerging as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
Mr Modi also highlighted recent infrastructure and technology initiatives, including the dedication of a major oil refinery in Rajasthan, the commissioning of the country's third semiconductor plant, and the launch of a green hydrogen-powered train. He said the hydrogen train features the world's most powerful engine of its kind and is the longest hydrogen-powered train, reflecting the capabilities of Indian scientists, engineers, innovators and workers.
The Prime Minister said India's recent achievements were the result of sustained reforms and the determination of its people, expressing hope that the Monsoon Session would further strengthen the country's development journey.
