New Agartala Civil Hospital Draws Patients With Corporate-Style Care, Digital Registration

Agartala, Jul 16: Economically disadvantaged patients in Tripura can now access corporate-style, fully air-conditioned healthcare with the July 12 launch of the 50-bed Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Agartala Civil Hospital near Jackson Gate, a facility that is already drawing dozens of daily visitors. Built at a cost of Rs 20.37 crore, the institution was established primarily to reduce the heavy patient load on the GBP and IGM hospitals. Reportedly, public reliance on the new facility is growing rapidly, with 65 patients visiting the hospital to receive treatment on Tuesday alone. To accommodate the public, the outpatient department is currently providing services in two distinct shifts.
The entire 50-bed hospital is air-conditioned and equipped with advanced amenities across its outpatient, inpatient, and emergency wards. Moreover, in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India vision, the health department has introduced the state's first digital patient registration system at this hospital. This move aims to make the administrative process smoother and more transparent for visiting patients. According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, patients can consult five specialist doctors currently stationed at the facility. The medical team includes Gynecologist and Obstetrician Dr. Sushanta Saha, General Medicine Specialist Dr. Uttam Kumar Barman, Dermatologist Dr. Anwesha Roy Bardhan, Pediatrician Dr. Arup Roy, and Ophthalmologist Dr. Amit Kumar Das. Additionally, Dental Surgeon Dr. Anwesha Bhattacharjee is available for dental care.
The specialist doctors are supported by a dedicated staff consisting of nine nursing officers, two lab technicians, one ECG technician, and one radiographer. Patients also have access to various on-site blood testing facilities and a dedicated ambulance service for emergencies. While inaugurating the hospital, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha expressed that the government is actively implementing the developmental work it envisions for public welfare. It is learned that this new infrastructure will not only serve local residents within the Agartala Municipal Corporation area but will also significantly benefit people traveling to the city from outside districts for medical reasons.
