Arunachal Poised to Become Northeast’s Richest State: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said Arunachal Pradesh is on track to become the richest state in the Northeast if it successfully implements its ambitious hydropower programme over the next decade.
Speaking during a discussion on development and infrastructure in the Budget session of the Assam Assembly, Sarma said Arunachal Pradesh has set a target of generating nearly 30,000 MW of hydropower, a move that could significantly transform the state's economy.
He informed the House that hydropower projects with a combined capacity of around 3,000 MW are currently under construction, while another 10,000 MW worth of projects have entered the implementation stage. The state's long-term vision is to scale up its installed hydropower capacity to approximately 30,000 MW.
Sarma attributed Arunachal Pradesh's progress in the hydropower sector to strong public support and political consensus, stating that these factors have played a crucial role in advancing large-scale infrastructure projects.
He expressed confidence that the successful execution of the hydropower programme would usher in unprecedented economic growth and position Arunachal Pradesh as the most prosperous state in the Northeast.
