Mayor Cracks Down on Delay in Heritage Pond Restoration

Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Tuesday took a firm stand against delays in the renovation of the historic Prabhu Bari pond, directing officials to speed up the restoration work and ensure its completion within the stipulated deadline.
During an inspection of the ongoing project, the Mayor expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of progress and instructed municipal engineers and officials to intensify efforts without compromising on quality. He stressed that the restoration of the heritage pond is a priority initiative aimed at preserving Agartala's cultural legacy while improving the city's environment and public spaces.
Sharing details of the visit, Majumder said the AMC has undertaken a special drive to restore and beautify the city's traditional ponds, with the Prabhu Bari pond being one of its key heritage conservation projects. He underlined that timely completion of the work is essential to maintain public confidence and protect the city's historical assets.
"Preserving Agartala's heritage ponds and enhancing their beauty is one of the municipal corporation's foremost responsibilities. The renovation must be completed within the prescribed timeframe," the Mayor said.
Ward No. 20 Councillor Ratna Dutta, senior officials of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, project engineers and other local dignitaries accompanied the Mayor during the inspection.
The restoration of the Prabhu Bari pond forms part of AMC's broader initiative to rejuvenate heritage water bodies across the city, with the aim of conserving Agartala's historical character while creating cleaner, greener and more attractive public spaces for residents.
