West Tripura Administration Opens Two Shelter Houses Amid Heavy Rainfall Warnings

The West Tripura District Administration opened two shelter houses in the Sadar Sub-Division on Monday evening to provide safe accommodation for residents affected by severe weather conditions.
According to an official press release, the designated safe zones have been established at Pratapgarh English Medium High School and Sukanta Academy English Medium Higher Secondary School. The district administration confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of the shelter occupants. Citizens requiring immediate assistance are requested to get in touch with the local administration, which remains committed to providing all possible support during this challenging period.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Meteorological Centre in Agartala issued an evening weather bulletin on July 13, warning of severe weather across the state. Reportedly, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are highly likely to occur at most places over the districts of Tripura. Furthermore, a specific warning indicates that heavy to very heavy rainfall, measuring between 7 to 20 centimeters, is very likely to occur at one or two places over the West Tripura and Sepahijala districts. Heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 centimeters is also expected at one or two places across the remaining districts of the state.
It is learned that the wet spell will persist over the coming days. For Day 2 and Day 3, covering the period from July 14 to July 16, light to moderate rain or thundershowers remain very likely at many places. The meteorological center has issued a warning for heavy rainfall between 7 to 11 centimeters at one or two places over the West, Khowai, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South Tripura districts during Day 2, extending to the West, Sepahijala, Gomati, and South districts on Day 3 and Day 4. No warnings have been issued for Day 5, though light to moderate rain will continue at many places.
Moreover, the IMD bulletin noted that the maximum temperature is likely to remain below normal for the next 24 hours before returning to near-normal levels, while the minimum temperature will stay near normal for the next three to four days.
The weather department has warned that such heavy to very heavy rainfall could lead to the flooding and waterlogging of roads and settlements in urban areas. This is expected to cause significant disruptions to municipal services, power outages, localized landslides, and traffic issues, particularly in low-lying areas where short-term evacuation advisories may become necessary.
