CRPF Remembers Constable C. Vittal Reddy, 27 Years After Tripura Ambush

Twenty-seven years after Constable C. Vittal Reddy of the CRPF's 18th Battalion was fatally wounded fighting insurgents near Nazarah and Bathrai villages in Tripura, the force on Monday remembered his courage as a proud chapter in its history.
According to a tribute shared by CRPF officials, the Director General and all ranks of the force paid solemn homage to Constable (General Duty) C. Vittal Reddy, who made the supreme sacrifice while bravely countering an ambush by insurgents during an operation in Tripura on 13 July 1999. The tribute described him as a "Veer Balidani Constable," meaning brave martyr, and listed his native state as Telangana and his date of birth as 10 July 1977.
It is learned that on the day of the ambush, a platoon of the 18th Battalion had set out from Ganganagar in Tripura, acting on reliable intelligence about insurgent movement. While patrolling near Nazarah and Bathrai villages, the platoon was ambushed by insurgents positioned on a hilltop.
Despite the tactical disadvantage, the troops took positions and retaliated fiercely, forcing the insurgents to flee. In the counter-attack, Reddy, fighting from the front, sustained serious injuries but continued to engage the enemy bravely, the tribute said.
"CRPF salutes the braveheart and pledges never to let his sacrifice go in vain," the force said in its tribute.
The tribute noted that Reddy's supreme sacrifice remains a proud chapter in the Force's legacy.
