Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday inaugurated the newly constructed 50-bed Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Agartala Civil Hospital, describing it as a significant milestone in the Tripura government's ongoing efforts to modernise healthcare infrastructure and make quality medical services more accessible to the public.
The hospital, built at an estimated cost of ₹24 crore located adjacent to Jackson Gate, has been developed on a corporate-style model with modern facilities and a fully paperless registration system. It will provide evening Outpatient Department (OPD) services, enabling residents of Agartala and nearby suburban areas to access medical care beyond regular working hours.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Saha said the hospital is being launched as a pilot project and, if it delivers the desired results, the government plans to establish similar healthcare facilities across the remaining 19 Urban Local Bodies in the state. He also announced that an Integrated Health System would soon be introduced to strengthen primary healthcare delivery and improve coordination among health institutions.
Emphasising the government's focus on emergency preparedness, the Chief Minister said every bed in the new hospital has been equipped with an oxygen supply to ensure prompt treatment during critical situations. He reiterated that the state government remains committed to upgrading healthcare services by combining modern infrastructure with technology-driven patient care.
The programme was attended by Mayor Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Central Zone Chairperson Ratna Dutta, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, Urban Development Secretary Milind Ramteke, Agartala Municipal Commissioner and NHM Tripura Mission Director Saju Wahid A, along with other senior officials.
