Safety upgrade: Rani Kamalapati-Agartala Special Express Switches to LHB Coaches

Prioritizing passenger safety through technology, Indian Railways has replaced traditional ICF coaches on the Agartala–Rani Kamalapati Special Express with LHB rakes, which feature an anti-telescopic design specifically engineered to minimize risk during collisions.
The transition, announced by the Northeast Frontier Railway on July 9, marks a notable milestone in the ongoing efforts by Indian Railways to modernize its fleet. According to the railway authority, the move is intended to provide a safer, faster, and more comfortable travel experience for passengers.
The newly introduced LHB coaches are built with advanced technology that includes an anti-telescopic design. This specific engineering significantly reduces the risk of coaches climbing over one another in the event of a collision, thereby enhancing overall passenger safety. Moreover, these coaches offer superior suspension systems designed to provide a smoother and more stable ride, in addition to being capable of operating at higher speeds and featuring upgraded interior amenities.
The new configuration consists of a 22-coach rake, which provides accommodation across multiple travel classes to meet the needs of a diverse range of passengers.
According to officials, the upgrade reflects a continued commitment to improving passenger services across the network. The shift to the modernized rake began with Train Number 01665 (Rani Kamalapati–Agartala) Special Express, which departed from Rani Kamalapati on July 9. The return service, Train Number 01666 (Agartala–Rani Kamalapati) Special Express, is scheduled to begin operating with the new LHB coaches starting July 12.
