SPO Families Seek Job Regularisation, Parity in Pay

Demanding regularisation of jobs and parity in pay and benefits with regular police personnel, family members of Special Police Officers (SPOs) submitted a 10-point memorandum to the state police headquarters here on Friday.
Members of the All Tripura SPO Family Welfare Association had gathered outside the state police headquarters on Friday, intending to hand over their memorandum directly to the DGP. However, with the DGP unavailable, the deputation was instead submitted to the DIG (Headquarters).
According to the organisation, SPOs in Tripura have long been performing important duties without their jobs being regularised. They alleged that SPOs continue to face discrimination in pay, allowances, social security and other facilities compared to regular police personnel.
After submitting the memorandum, representatives of the family members placed their 10-point charter of demands before the media. The demands, they said, include an end to years of meagre allowances, limited facilities and an uncertain career path for SPOs.
It is learned that several protesters had travelled from far off places specifically to meet the DGP, but were denied the opportunity. They said that had the DGP been genuinely occupied, he could have informed them in advance to return the following day, describing his unavailability as entirely unexpected.
The organisation further stated that despite long years of risky service, the future of SPOs remains uncertain, and called upon the state government to take positive and immediate steps to fulfil their demands, warning that inaction would compel them to intensify their agitation.
