Govt Directs Sports Federations to Publish LA 2028 Selection Criteria
Jul 10, 2026
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has directed all recognised National Sports Federations (NSFs) to publish the qualification pathway, selection criteria and process for athletes aiming to compete at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The Ministry said that the selection policy and criteria for major international events, including the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, Para Asian Games and Commonwealth Games, must be uploaded on the official websites of the respective NSFs at least two years before the commencement of the Games. The policy should also be shared with the federations' member units and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games are scheduled to be held from July 14 to July 30, 2028. As the qualification pathways have already been released by the respective International Federations, all recognised NSFs have been asked to publish their Olympic qualification and selection procedures by the 15th of this month.
The Ministry said the directive aims to promote greater transparency and accountability in the athlete selection process, ensuring clarity and fairness for all stakeholders.
