Doctors Successfully Remove Growing Neck Cyst from 6-Year-Old Child in Unakoti


Agartala, Jul 9: Doctors at Unakoti District Hospital successfully removed a thyroglossal duct cyst from the neck of a 6-year-old child from the Machmara area through a complex surgery performed on June 26, 2026, saving the child from potential future complications.The child had been suffering from a tumour-like swollen mass on the front of the neck for a long time. The swelling continued to grow in size, causing discomfort to the child. The child was subsequently brought to Unakoti District Hospital, where doctors conducted various tests and confirmed that the growth was a thyroglossal duct cyst.

According to doctors, the condition is a congenital physical defect. If not removed in time, it can lead to infection and other complications in the future. Taking this into account, the district hospital's specialist ENT surgeon Dr Arup Chakraborty decided to proceed with surgery. On June 26, the thyroglossal duct cyst was completely removed from the child's neck through a successful operation. The child recovered quickly after the surgery, and the hospital discharged the child the following day.

The surgery was carried out under the leadership of ENT surgeon Dr Arup Chakraborty. Dr Amit Pal Chowdhury served as the anaesthesiologist, while Mundeepa Debbarma acted as the nursing officer and Mithun Malla as the OT assistant during the procedure.The child's family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nursing officers and health workers of Unakoti District Hospital for carrying out the surgery completely free of cost. The family thanked the medical team for the successful treatment that restored the child's health.
